Genessee Valley Concerns of Police Survivors

About Us

Each year, between 140-160 Law Enforcement Officers are killed in the Line of Duty. Families and co-workers are left to cope with the tragic loss. C.O.P.S. provides resources to help rebuild shattered lives.

C.O.P.S. programs for survivors include the National Police Survivors' Conference held each May during National Police Week; scholarships; peer-support at the national, state, and local levels; "C.O.P.S. Kids" counseling reimbursement program; the "C.O.P.S. Kids" Summer Camp, "C.O.P.S. Teens" Outward Bound Adventure for young adults, special retreats for spouses, parents, siblings, adult children, extended family, and co-workers; trial and parole support, and other assistance programs.

Genesee Valley C.O.P.S., a chapter of National C.O.P.S., was established August of 2008 after survivors in Western NY identified a need to provide outreach and increase accessibility of services to survivors local to the Monroe County area.

National C.O.P.S. was organized in 1984 with 110 members. Today, membership totals over 67,000 families nationwide. Members include spouses, children, parents, siblings, significant others, in-laws and other family members, as well as bereaved co-workers per PSOB, FBI, NLEOMF, and ODMP Guidelines.
